Let me introduce Motorman Zai Zai. He shared so many stories from his years working at the tram company. He comes across as genuine, honest and very funny. He told me that when he first joined, he was quite hot‑headed and impatient. What he’s most grateful for is the guidance of Chak sifu (master), the Chief Motorman, who taught him how to be patient and respectful. To Zai Zai, Chak sifu became as important as a father figure.
When I asked him about his most unforgettable memory (and told him I wanted a juicy one), Zai Zai grinned and confessed it was all about love. Years ago he met his future wife during a tram break at the North Point market — and that chance meeting blossomed into romance. For the proposal he staged a tram‑themed surprise: hopping off early to change into a suit and grab flowers, then re‑boarding another tram to return to the very spot they first met, where he went down on one knee as friends cheered. The tram is far more than work — it witnessed the sweetest twist in his life.
